Professor Eric Ho

Hello

I am a people scientist who loves outdoor adventures and extreme sports. Extroverted and sociable but enjoying the solitude that nature offers and the times I am in the study room laboriously researching and writing papers. I love animals and have an adorable poodle. In an alternate life, I might have been a Search and Rescue Doctor practising wilderness medicine somewhere in the high Alps.

My Story

Leaders aren't born, they are made.

Through a series of both planned and unexpected adventures, I quested through my own Hero's Journey [Hero's Journey is my trademarked leadership program] with sheer perseverance, hardcore resilience and tough work. I have journeyed to far corners of the earth, climbed mountains high above the oxygen treshold, served in a zone of conflict with guns firing, been through life and death situations, stood tall again after surgeons told me I'd be paralysed for life, saw the other side of death through a cardiac arrest and lived to tell the story today. I am a survivor and a fighter - and these experiences helped shape my leadership philosophy.

The same can be said of my experience in pushing the treshold of my leadership responsibilities in my career and crafting the skills I wanted to have. Walking the talk is important to me.

My own trauma has given me the insight to empathise with and heal my patients from within. My leadership journey through the school of hard knocks has taught me that leadership is NOT being in charge, but leadership is caring for those for are in my charge.

Today, I do what I do because I am passionate about the unlived potential that people hold. I help people achieve Purpose, Meaning, Clarity and Contribution [my trademarked PMCC Coaching Methodology] in whatever unique journey that they are undertaking. I love the multiplier effect on the people I work with because they are leaders - leaders in their businesses, leaders in their communities, leaders in their families. By giving these leaders a Voice, they in turn lend their Voices to those who follow them. They grow from private victories to public victories. When I help these leaders develop their self-awareness and success, they in turn unleash greatness in others: the epitome of leadership.

Sometimes leaders lose their compass in the stormy seas they encounter, and I help them to regain their True North as Captains of their ship. True North is a leadership program I have researched and developed to help leaders build an authentic leadership practice.

There is an art and science to what I do as an organization scientist and a psychologist. Culture does not appear overnight by accident! Organizations and people do not just become the way that they are by chance. They are living and breathing dynamic organisms that are shaped by the thoughts, actions and every day decisions that happen in a community. As such, people and organizations can be moulded and developed into the vision that we aspire to. The study of these organizational systems, human behavior, motivation and performance is the expertise of Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

There is so much that science informs but so little that businesses put into practice. I bring the art to the science: to be the bridge between business leaders and their workforce.

Leaders aren't born, they are made: and psychological science can teach us how.
